Bodegas Añadas can be found at the heart of the resurgent Spanish D.O. Cariñena in the region of Aragon close to the town of Zaragoza. It is the oldest D.O. of the region but until fairly recently it had fallen from grace. Now it is back in fashion and Bodegas Añadas, who produce wines under the Care label - Care being the old Roman name for Cariena - are top of the tree of producers.
Combining the best of modern technology combined with traditional winemaking skills, the wines are very fruit forward with good depth and structure and these are perfectly suited to drinking both with and without food.
On our first visit to the winery, Nacho Lazaro, the owner and Managing Director, produced the most enormous Tortilla for the tasting. Unfortunately we never eat whilst tasting so Nacho was left with a very hearty lunch!
The vineyards of the Bodega are in 4 major parcels with the Bancales and Cadillos estates dating back to the 1980's while the Peñanegra and Zagalcerro Estates date back to the late 1940's and early 1950's and now give the ultimate quality of fruit for the wine maker to work with. The latter two are also at higher altitude and thus the fruit is fresher and gives wines with a delightful level of acidity making the resulting wines crisp and clean.
