Collection: Some wonderful wines for Autumn.

When we talk of autumn, we automatically think of Burgundy wines. These are wines that will fit the bill in any season but with the richer flavours found at this time of year, they are especially appropriate.
The first white wine that will be great with food is the Saint Romain “La Combe Bazin” 2016 from Prunier Bonheur. The village is sited just off the main Cote and benefits from the freshness and minerality derived from both the soil structure and altitude. This wine has a generous floral nose together with some ripe fruit and hints of honey. The palate is fresh and mineral with s good balancing acidity and a great finish.
It makes a wonderful food partner and goes effortlessly with white fish, eggs (and truffles!) or soft cheeses such as Camembert where the fresh acidity will balance well against the richness.
Another great wine for this season is Gavi Etichetta d’Oro Tenuta la Marchesi 2020 which is made from pure Cortese in the Piemonte, north-west Italy. It has an enticing bouquet of crisp apple and spring blossom which leads into a full, generous and complex palate thanks to the lengthy period it spent resting on its lees. Apple, pear and white flower notes balance the fresh acidity and touch of spice, and the percentage of oak ageing has served to round off any sharp corners rather than asserting any character of its own.
It's a particularly good partner to shellfish and seafood but will work well with chicken dishes and hard cheeses, especially goat’s cheese.
The first red we’d like to point to is the Chassagne Montrachet Rouge from Fontaine Gagnard 2017. The 2017 vintage has produced some really seductive red wines and none more so than this. The wine has plenty of chewy raspberry and cherry fruit with good spice notes above. The palate is round and ripe with good firm and elegant tannins. This juicy offering will be great for autumn drinking, especially with some feathered game.
