Astoria's Corderie represents the pinnacle of Prosecco di Valdobbiadene DOCG, sourced from the steep hillside vineyards of this UNESCO World Heritage region. The Extra Dry style contains 12-17 grams of residual sugar, creating a perfect balance between the wine's natural acidity and gentle sweetness. This magnum format enhances the wine's elegance and provides impressive presence for celebrations.

The Corderie cuvée delivers classic Glera character with fresh orchard fruit, white flowers, and mineral precision that reflects the unique terroir of Valdobbiadene's calcareous soils. Best enjoyed within two years of release to capture its vibrant primary fruit and lively mousse.

This Prosecco reaches peak drinking immediately upon release when its primary fruit flavours are most vibrant and the mousse is at its finest. Over the first 12 months, the wine maintains excellent freshness with perhaps slightly more integrated fruit character. Beyond 18-24 months, the bubbles may begin to soften and primary fruit will fade, though the wine remains pleasant. As a sparkling wine designed for immediate enjoyment, extended ageing offers no benefits and the wine is best consumed within two years of disgorgement.

Tasting Notes

AppearancePale straw gold with persistent fine bubbles and excellent clarity.

NoseImmediate aromas of green apple and William pear, followed by white peach and subtle acacia honey. Delicate floral characters emerge with mineral undertones and a whisper of crusty bread from extended lees contact.

PalateFresh and lively entry with crisp apple and pear flavours complemented by stone fruit richness. The Extra Dry style provides gentle roundness without masking the wine's natural acidity, while fine mousse creates an elegant, creamy texture. Clean mineral finish with lingering citrus zest.

FinishMedium length with apple freshness and a subtle almond character.

Overall impressionClassic Valdobbiadene elegance with perfect balance between fruit purity and gentle sweetness.

Food Pairings

In Veneto, Extra Dry Prosecco traditionally accompanies cicchetti - small plates of baccalà mantecato (creamed cod), sarde in saor (sweet and sour sardines), and various tramezzini sandwiches. The wine's gentle sweetness complements the region's prosciutto di San Daniele and aged Asiago cheese, while its acidity cuts through rich risottos with radicchio di Treviso. During festive occasions, locals pair it with pandoro or panettone, and it's essential for the Venetian aperitivo ritual alongside olives, small sandwiches, and cicchetti selections.

FAQs

What's the difference between Extra Dry and Brut Prosecco?

Extra Dry Prosecco contains 12-17 grams of residual sugar per litre, making it slightly sweeter than Brut (under 12g/L). This style offers a rounder, more approachable character that many find perfectly balanced with Prosecco's natural acidity.

How long will this magnum keep once opened?

A magnum of Prosecco will maintain its quality for 2-3 days in the refrigerator with a proper sparkling wine stopper. The larger format actually helps preserve effervescence longer than standard bottles due to the lower ratio of air to wine.

Why choose Prosecco di Valdobbiadene DOCG over regular Prosecco?

Valdobbiadene DOCG represents the finest Prosecco production, with grapes sourced from steep hillside vineyards in the historic heart of the region. The wines show greater elegance, mineral complexity, and finesse compared to basic Prosecco DOC from flatter vineyard sites.

What food works best with Extra Dry Prosecco?

The gentle sweetness makes Extra Dry Prosecco excellent with spicy Asian cuisine, fresh fruit desserts, and rich pâtés or foie gras. It's also perfect for aperitivo with nuts, olives, and charcuterie, or alongside creamy cheeses and light seafood dishes.

Should I age this Prosecco in my cellar?

No, Prosecco is designed for immediate consumption and is best enjoyed within 18-24 months of release. Extended ageing will only diminish the fresh fruit character and lively mousse that define quality Prosecco.

What's special about the Corderie vineyard?

Corderie represents some of Astoria's finest vineyard sites in Valdobbiadene, planted on steep slopes with calcareous soils that impart mineral precision and elegance to the wine. The name reflects the challenging rope-work required to tend these precipitous vineyards.
