Astoria's Galie Prosecco di Treviso Extra Dry represents excellent value Prosecco from one of the Veneto's most respected producers. Made from Glera grapes grown in the designated Treviso zone, this wine offers the fresh, approachable character that makes Prosecco so versatile.

The Extra Dry designation means this carries 12-17g/L residual sugar, providing just enough sweetness to balance the wine's natural acidity whilst maintaining freshness. Best enjoyed young to capture its vibrant fruit and lively bubbles, this 300cl format makes it ideal for parties or larger gatherings. Drink until 2028.

Prosecco is designed for immediate consumption and should be enjoyed within 2-3 years of release to capture its primary fruit character and lively effervescence. The fresh apple and citrus flavours will gradually soften over time, though the wine's essential character remains pleasant. After 2028, the bubbles may become less persistent and the fruit less vibrant, though the wine will remain perfectly drinkable.

Tasting Notes

AppearancePale straw yellow with persistent, fine bubbles forming elegant streams in the glass.

NoseClean and inviting with fresh green apple and citrus blossom leading the aromatics. Subtle pear and white peach add depth, whilst a mineral edge provides backbone. The bouquet remains delicate and focused.

PalateLight-bodied and refreshing with crisp acidity balanced by gentle residual sweetness. Green apple and lemon flavours dominate, supported by white stone fruit and a clean mineral thread. The mousse is creamy yet lively, adding textural interest without overwhelming the delicate fruit.

FinishClean and persistent with lingering citrus and a subtle almond bitter note that adds complexity.

Overall impressionA well-made, straightforward Prosecco that delivers freshness and drinkability at an accessible price point.

Food Pairings

In the Veneto, Prosecco traditionally accompanies cicchetti, the local version of tapas served in Venetian bacari. Popular pairings include baccalà mantecato (whipped salt cod) on crostini, sardines in saor (sweet and sour preparation), and tramezzini filled with prawn or egg. The wine's fresh acidity cuts through the richness of fritto misto di pesce whilst its gentle sweetness complements the region's love of sweet-and-sour flavour combinations.

FAQs

What does Extra Dry mean in Prosecco?

Extra Dry indicates a sweetness level of 12-17g/L residual sugar, making it slightly sweeter than Brut but drier than Dry. This level provides gentle sweetness that balances Prosecco's natural acidity whilst maintaining freshness.

How does Prosecco di Treviso differ from Prosecco di Conegliano Valdobbiadene?

Prosecco di Treviso DOC covers the flatter plains of the Veneto, whilst Conegliano Valdobbiadene DOCG comes from steep hillside vineyards. The DOCG wines typically show more intensity and mineral complexity, whilst Treviso offers approachable, everyday drinking at lower prices.

How long will this 300cl bottle stay fresh once opened?

Once opened, Prosecco begins losing its effervescence within hours. Use a proper sparkling wine stopper and refrigerate immediately - this should preserve bubbles and freshness for 1-2 days maximum. The large format means it's best reserved for gatherings where it will be consumed quickly.

What's the best way to chill such a large bottle?

The 300cl format requires advance planning - refrigerate for at least 6-8 hours before serving, or use a large ice bucket filled with ice and water for 30-45 minutes. Avoid freezers as this can damage the wine's structure and potentially cause the bottle to crack.

Why is Astoria a reliable Prosecco producer?

Founded in 1987, Astoria focuses exclusively on sparkling wine production and has built a reputation for consistent quality across their range. Their location in the heart of the Prosecco zone provides access to excellent fruit, whilst their modern facilities ensure clean, fresh wines that represent excellent value.
