Château Canet's Tête de Cuvée represents the finest expression of Picpoul de Pinet from this respected Languedoc estate. This premium cuvée comes from their best vineyard parcels, delivering exceptional purity and concentration whilst retaining the grape's characteristic mineral drive and coastal salinity.
The 2025 vintage offers bright citrus freshness balanced by white stone fruit richness, with a distinctive saline finish that speaks of its proximity to the Mediterranean. Best enjoyed young whilst the fruit remains vibrant and the acidity crisp, this wine drinks beautifully from 2026 until 2028.
This Picpoul is designed for immediate pleasure and should be consumed within two to three years of vintage. The primary citrus fruit will remain vibrant through 2027, with the mineral character becoming more pronounced as the wine develops. By 2028, the fresh fruit will begin to fade though the saline minerality will persist. Unlike age-worthy whites, Picpoul shows best in its youth when the balance between fruit, acidity and minerals is at its peak.

Food Pairings
In the Languedoc, Picpoul de Pinet is the natural partner for the region's abundant seafood, particularly the local speciality of moules marinières from the Étang de Thau. The wine's salinity complements fresh oysters from nearby Bouzigues perfectly, whilst its acidity cuts through rich dishes like bourride, the local fish stew with aioli. Grilled sea bass with herbs de Provence and simple preparations of langoustines showcase the wine's mineral character beautifully.
We think this wine would go well with
Serve well chilled at 8-10°C in a medium-sized white wine glass that concentrates the delicate aromatics. No decanting required - this wine benefits from immediate consumption to capture its fresh, vibrant character. The mineral complexity develops nicely in the glass over 30-45 minutes if allowed to warm slightly.
The vineyards sit on classic Picpoul terroir: limestone and clay soils with fossilised oyster shells, testament to the area's ancient marine origins. The proximity to the Étang de Thau lagoon creates a unique microclimate with cooling maritime breezes that preserve acidity whilst the limestone bedrock imparts the mineral backbone characteristic of great Picpoul. These conditions produce wines of remarkable purity and salinity.
Picpoul de Pinet is a small appellation within the broader Languedoc covering just 1,500 hectares around the Étang de Thau lagoon. The rules mandate 100% Picpoul blanc, with strict yield limits and harvesting regulations. This coastal terroir produces some of France's most distinctive white wines, combining Mediterranean warmth with maritime freshness. The appellation's wines are renowned for their natural acidity and mineral character, quite different from the richer whites found inland in the Languedoc.
The 2025 vintage in Languedoc benefited from a well-balanced growing season that allowed producers to showcase the region's diverse terroirs. Spring conditions were generally favourable, avoiding the late frosts that have troubled some recent years. Summer brought sufficient warmth without excessive heat stress, while timely rainfall in key periods helped maintain vine health. Harvest conditions proved conducive to selective picking, allowing growers to capture optimal ripeness across the region's varied microclimates from the coastal plains to the elevated sites of the Corbières and Minervois.
Early tastings suggest 2025 has produced wines of excellent quality with notable freshness and varietal expression. Syrah shows particular promise with concentrated fruit and well-integrated tannins, while Grenache displays the aromatic intensity that marks the finest Languedoc vintages. Mourvèdre ripened successfully in the warmer sites, contributing structure to blends. The region's white varieties, particularly Roussanne and Viognier, have retained good acidity levels. Most 2025 reds will benefit from 2-3 years' cellaring to allow their tannins to soften, though the more approachable wines are already drinking well. The finest cuvées should evolve gracefully over the next decade.
FAQs
What makes this Tête de Cuvée different from regular Picpoul de Pinet?
The Tête de Cuvée comes from Château Canet's oldest vines and best vineyard parcels, offering greater concentration and mineral complexity than their standard cuvée whilst maintaining Picpoul's characteristic freshness and salinity.
How should I store this wine?
Store horizontally in a cool, dark place at 10-12°C. As this wine is designed for early consumption, avoid long-term cellaring and drink within 2-3 years of vintage for optimal freshness.
What food pairings work best with Picpoul de Pinet?
Seafood is the classic match - oysters, mussels, grilled fish, and seafood pasta all work beautifully. The wine's salinity and acidity also complement goat's cheese, fresh salads, and light vegetarian dishes.
Is 2025 a good vintage for Picpoul de Pinet?
2025 was an excellent vintage in the Languedoc with ideal conditions for white wine production - warm days tempered by maritime breezes preserved acidity whilst ensuring full ripeness, resulting in wines of exceptional balance.
Can this wine age?
Picpoul de Pinet is designed for early consumption and shows best within 2-3 years. Whilst it won't deteriorate quickly, the fresh fruit character that makes it so appealing will gradually fade beyond this timeframe.
What temperature should I serve this at?
Serve well chilled at 8-10°C. Too cold and you'll mask the mineral complexity; too warm and the wine loses its refreshing character. Remove from the fridge 10-15 minutes before serving.
