This Pinot Grigio delle Venezie rosé from Decanal captures the elegant, restrained style that has made Venetian rosés increasingly popular. The delle Venezie DOC encompasses vineyards across the Veneto, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, and Trentino-Alto Adige, allowing producers to blend fruit from multiple zones for consistency and character.

The wine displays the variety's characteristic finesse with a delicate salmon-pink hue achieved through brief skin contact. Fresh red apple and white peach flavours are lifted by bright acidity, making this an ideal aperitif or match for light seafood and summer salads. Best enjoyed within two years of release to preserve its crisp, vibrant character.

This rosé is designed for immediate consumption, showing its best fruit character within the first two years of release. The primary berry flavours will remain vibrant through 2027, after which the wine may begin to lose its fresh appeal. Unlike age-worthy reds, this style does not develop secondary complexity with time, so earlier consumption maximises enjoyment. The crisp acidity will maintain the wine's structure, but fruit intensity will gradually diminish beyond 2028.

Tasting Notes

AppearancePale salmon pink with copper highlights, bright and clear.

NoseFresh red berries emerge immediately, particularly strawberry and raspberry. Subtle floral aromas of rose petals follow, supported by a clean mineral backdrop.

PalateLight-bodied with crisp acidity that carries flavours of summer berries and white peach. The texture remains fresh and clean throughout, with a delicate saline quality adding interest. Dry finish with no residual sweetness.

FinishClean and refreshing with lingering berry fruit and subtle mineral notes.

Overall impressionA textbook example of Italian rosé craftsmanship, offering immediate appeal and food-friendly versatility.

Food Pairings

In the Veneto, this style of rosé traditionally accompanies cicchetti - small plates of marinated vegetables, prosciutto, and local cheeses served in Venetian bacari. Summer dining often features this wine alongside risotto alle fragole, sarde in saor (sweet and sour sardines), and grilled branzino with herbs. The wine's crisp acidity cuts through rich dishes like fegato alla veneziana whilst complementing lighter fare such as radicchio di Treviso salads and fresh mozzarella with San Marzano tomatoes.

FAQs

What makes this different from other Pinot Grigio?

This is a rosé version made from brief skin contact with Pinot Grigio grapes, extracting colour and additional flavour whilst maintaining the variety's characteristic freshness and minerality.

How long will this keep once opened?

Like most rosés, this will maintain its character for 2-3 days in the refrigerator with a proper wine stopper, though it's best enjoyed within 24 hours of opening.

What's the difference between Delle Venezie and Veneto DOC?

Delle Venezie is a newer, larger appellation covering three regions and specifically focused on Pinot Grigio, whilst Veneto DOC covers only that region but includes multiple grape varieties.

Is this wine suitable for vegans?

Most modern Italian rosés use minimal intervention winemaking, but you should check with the producer directly as fining agents can vary between vintages and producers.

Why is this wine non-vintage?

Non-vintage allows the producer to blend across years for consistency of style, which is common for everyday drinking wines designed for immediate consumption rather than cellaring.

What temperature should I serve this at?

Serve at 8-10°C - cold enough to refresh but not so cold that it mutes the delicate berry flavours that make this rosé special.
